A Bit too much power
The process of mining and obtaining new bitcoin can be extremely costly in energy usage. Over the course of the pandemic cryptocurrencies have gained popularity and, according to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index, Bitcoin energy usage has increased dramatically. As of May 2021, Bitcoin mining could be using as much as 149TWh per year, just less than the electricity consumed in the whole of Poland annually.
