A game by any other name
The Tanzanian game of Bao is a version of a group of African board games referred to as Mancala. It is played on a wooden board carved with 4 rows of 8 pits. Each player receives 32 counters (called seeds). Each move consists of ‘sowing’ seeds from your pits in an effort to capture your opponent’s seeds. The many different Mancala games are all strategy games involving variations of this seed sowing mechanic; each with unique rules and gameplay. Different versions exist all over Africa and have spread with the African diaspora to the Middle East, Asia, and The Caribbean. (https://bit.ly/2zp8Lj3, https://bit.ly/2TIHcYQ) #AfricaMonth
