The latest Global Competitiveness Report 2014/15 ranks South Africa 144th out of 144 countries on the quality of maths and science education. Angola is ranked 143rd and Tanzania is ranked 137th. The highest ranked African country is Cote d’Ivoire in 22nd place which is higher than Australia (38th) and the US (51st). (http://bit.ly/1Aauqzg)

    Yes, there are a lot of areas where improvements are desperately needed. But why don’t we balance the coverage of this report by mentioning some of the achievements. Such as:
    Strength of auditing and reporting standards, Rank 1
    Protection of minority shareholders’ interests, Rank 2
    Efficacy of corporate boards, Rank 3
    Regulation of securities exchange, Rank 1
    Financing through local equity market, Rank3
