Almost half a day of light
The Vernal Equinox takes place on Tuesday 22 Sept and is one of two days when the Earth’s axis neither points towards or away from the sun. Although it is commonly believed that on this date there is an equal amount of daylight and darkness, due to light refraction and latitude the length of the day ranges from 12h06m30s at the equator to 12h16m00s at 60 degrees latitude.
