An ounce of prevention
Although vaccines prevent 2-3 million deaths every year, they cannot assist with chronic, mental or genetic diseases. There are currently 26 diseases for which vaccines are available, and a further 24 diseases for which vaccines are in development, excluding Covid-19. It is estimated that 150 to 200 million lives may have been saved between 1980 and 2018 by the smallpox vaccine.
