Ancient Inoculation
Vaccinations are believed to prevent up to 3 million deaths worldwide every year. There is evidence that some Asian and African countries practiced some form of inoculation as far back as 1000 CE. The first Western vaccine occurred when Edward Jenner inoculated a boy with ‘cowpox’ in 1796, which ultimately led to the eradication of naturally occurring smallpox.
