Bells and whistles
Written in 1857 by James Pierpont, Jingle Bells was copyrighted under the title “One Horse Open Sleigh”. It was not originally written as a Christmas song and has been speculated to have been written for his father’s Sunday School at Thanksgiving. Whatever it’s origin, Astronauts Wally Schirra and Thomas Stafford made it the first song heard from space on 16 December 1965. The song was played on a harmonica with accompanying bells, which are now in the Smithsonian Institution. (https://wapo.st/2BdSuKs, http://bit.ly/2C74I9x).
