In the decade between the last two Census surveys in 2001 and 2011 the number of households with a flush toilet increased by 2.9 million to a total of 8.7 million households in 2011 (60% of households) and the number of households with piped water in their dwelling or yard increased by 3.7 million to 10.6 million households in 2011 (73%).
