Of all the cocoa produced globally, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana account for 70% of total production, but at a steep human cost. The two countries have more than 1.4m cocoa farmers earning roughly $1 per day and more than 1.5m children working in cocoa agriculture. Globally, cocoa farmers are among the lowest earners, receiving just 6.6% of the value of the final sale, while retailers earn 44.2%.
