   This is drawing an inference that is not true. It seems from the fact presented that there are similar numbers of households owning houses. What has been ommitted are both groups who have already paid off their bonds and therefore are also owner, but not represented here !!

   The thing that makes this fascinating for me is how small that number is. Given the amount of noise and hype around “home loans” you get the impression that this is an enormous market , but in terms of numbers of economically active families it seems very small indeed.

   Does this include people who own houses but don’t have a bond? i.e. older people who have paid off their house.
   In round %’s I read this as only 10% of of whites and 1% of blacks own their own home. Can these small numbers be true????

      Farah – the article referred to in the fact-a-day explains that “The survey term “African” refers to black South Africans.”

   Then the term ought to be revisited… Africans are all born on the continent.
