Born to Ride
The Tour de France (TDF) began on the 1st of July 1903 as a 2,428km loop of France, broken out into 6 stages, when a group of ~60 men mounted their bicycles to win a 20,000 Franc prize as individual racers. The Tour’s first winner, Maurice Garin, completed the TDF in 94H 33′ 14” . Today, the TDF is a celebrated international team-biking event covering ~3,350km over 21-stages. The 2021 winner of the TDF, Tadej Pogačar completed 3,383km in 82H 56′ 36”.
