In 1940 the 14 year old future Queen Elizabeth II was first heard on radio. After taking the throne in 1952 she followed her father’s tradition, and delivered the famous “Christmas Broadcast” almost every year during her reign. The broadcast was on radio until 1956, after which it was televised every year except 1969 – that year she instead issued a written note.
