Femicide, the intentional killing of women, is a global problem. Of the 87,000 women killed in 2017, about 58% (50,000) were killed by a family member or intimate partner (roughly 137 each day). Although Asia has the highest absolute number of deaths, Africa has the highest rate of femicide with 3.1 per 100,000 females.
