   Interesting, The source you list(wiki) says 9 Nobels for India not 10, 3 of which is in parts that are no longer india. So depending on how you count India may have as few as 6.

   Interestingly enough, Ghandi’s name is nowhere to be found?? Is the nobel then such a good measure?

   On the SA side peace, literature and medicine is where SA’s did well each with multiple awards.

   Just over half the Nobel prizes have been awarded to the UK and former Uk colonies.
   The US distorts the picture with 332, the Uk has an impressive 116.

   Germany has 103. If you consider they have lost 2 world wars and more recently another soccer world cup then it is quite impressive.

   France is a distant 4th at 57

   Israel has produced 9 Nobel Laureates, though five of these were not born in Israel.

   The fact that they fled Nazi Europe is not in dispute. I simply made the comment that the Nobel Laureates were not all born in Israel as these people may be included in the list of Nobel laureates for a number of other countries (depending on what criteria the list is based on).

   For example Robert Aumann who won the Economics award in 2005 is included under the Israeli, United States, and German Nobel laureate lists, though he is considered Israeli.

    Israel was only formed in 1948 that means just over 62 years ago. About 1 generation later, it is to be expected that on this basis they will not have many pure nobel prize winners.

    True James, but the plot is thicker. Of all the 181 Jews that have won Nobel prizes to date, only two (Robert Aumann and Shy Agnon) insisted on Kosher food at the award ceremony (possibly also Arno Penzias, though I’m not sure.) So while Jews have won more than there fair share, they were overwhelmingly marginal Jews – indifferent, assimilated, intermarried, self-hating, and a more than a handful baptised (see http://www.jinfo.org/Philosophy.html).

    “THE vice-chancellors of South African universities would do well to consider the place of their university within the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings. Interesting global shifts are taking place, and while the University of Cape Town (UCT) ranks within the top 200, our other universities come nowhere close.

    While UCT came 146th last year, this year it has dropped to 161st place. Universities should improve, not deteriorate. Instead of questioning the ranking criteria and finding excuses, vice-chancellors should do their damndest to provide top-quality education for our children” Rhoda Kadalie in the Business Day. Once the institution falls out of the top 200 who cares – its a lottery from thereon down.
    Re the Nobel Prize winners (NPW) SA has nine. 4 for peace which is to be expected considering our history, 2 for Lit and 3 for med. Of the latter 3 the one identified with the US of A.Incidently 2 are for sure Jewish. Then how many NPWs were born in SA and won prizes for other countries?
