Coining it
The average value of South African coins in circulation increased by 11% from R3.8bn in 2009/10 to R4.1bn in 2010/11. Part of this increase can be ascribed to the increase in demand for SA coins by other SADC countries, especially Zimbabwe, where it was being used as official legal tender alongside the US dollar.
