The budget for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham was around £778m (~R16bn), a decrease from the £967m spent at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018. The cost of the games has grown significantly since the first games in 1930, which cost the equivalent of around ~£1.3m today, adjusted for inflation (or ~R26m).
