According to the Eighty20 MAPS customer insights dataset, 9% (1.6 m) of South African households have a gaming console (Wii, Playstation or Xbox). Following the worldwide release of their next-generation consoles, Sony reported sales of 3.3m Playstation 5s during 2021Q1, compared to sales of 1.3m Xbox Series XIS over the same period. However, it was the Nintendo Switch that performed the best over the quarter, with 5.7m consoles being sold.
