   This is just blatant advertising. 7 pieces of chicken is still not a whole chicken. This is extremely misleading and I would expect a post like this on 1 April. This is not even a joke.

   A cooked chicken is R55 at Checkers. Buy chips or even better how about using potatoes and making your own chips!!!! Much healthier than KFC anyday even though it is still not healthy with chips. Use sweet potatoes and it will be a healthy meal.

   This does not factor in your future medical bill for clogged arteries, high cholesterol and obesity, let’s rather educate people on making HEALTHY choices instead of making such ridiculous comparisons, DISAPPOINTED eighty20! Today your FACT-A-Day was most definitely COOKED IN THE HEAD!

   It was certainly not my intention to advertise KFC. Personally I would never eat there. According to AMPS 2013 over 18.5 million South Africans have eaten KFC in the past month (roughly half the adult population) – over four times higher than the next fast food joint (McDonalds at around 4.6 million). When checking KFCs menu I was intrigued to find that you can’t actually buy a chicken. Menu items are denominated in buckets and pieces which is a pretty good way of making price comparisons fairly difficult. Nando’s on the other hand really does sell chickens. They cost R99.90 – basted for 24 hours and grilled. The average chicken at Nando’s weighs in at between 1.1kg and 1.3kg raw. Customer care tells me they loose weight when you cook them – they may be onto something here (lose weight by cooking). According to AMPS around 4.3 million South African adults have bought food at Nando’s in the last month. While KFC’s secret recipe and 11 herbs and spices may well make the stuff irresistible, it may also be the fact that it is so cheap that makes it so popular.
