Decline
The Living Planet Index measures trends in thousands of vertebrate species populations, and has shown a decline of 52% between 1970 and 2010. This means that the number of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish worldwide is, on average, about half the size it was 40 years ago. (Living Planet Report 2014, http://bit.ly/KxOMXX)
