In 1842, Richard Owen, founder of London’s Natural History Museum, coined the term Dinosauria to classify a group of fossils. Although “dinosaur”, derived from from the term Dinosauria, is often translated as “terrible lizard,” Owen emphasized their vast size, describing them as “fearfully great” creatures, much larger than any living reptiles.
