Downpours, Damages, Displacement
In March 2019, Tropical Cyclone Idai swept across Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, and Malawi causing damages estimated at R31.6bn. In Mozambique alone, 146,000 people were internally displaced. Globally, extreme weather events caused by a changing climate trigger more than 20m people to leave their homes each year. Furthermore, it is estimated that this number could reach 200m people by 2050 if ambitious climate action is not undertaken.
