Eastern Numbers
The ten symbols (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) that we use in our modern number system came from the Hindu-Arabic number system. The translation into Latin in 1145 of Al-Khwarizmi’s book “al-jabr” exposed this system to Europe. Its compact method of displaying large numbers made it ideal for banking and astronomy, and today it is the most widely used system on the planet.
