The word ‘educate’ comes from the Latin word educare, meaning ‘bring up, rear, train’. According to the World Bank, there are around 132 million girls worldwide aged 6 to 17 who do not attend school. Fewer than two-thirds of girls in low-income countries complete primary school, and only a third complete lower secondary school.
