Education under the Taliban
During the Taliban’s rule between 1996 and 2001 females were banned from working outside the home, going out in public without a close male relative and pursuing education. Once the Taliban was no longer in power, primary education saw a rapid increase and has been steadily rising ever since, reaching a total of 6.5 million pupils enrolled at primary level in 2018, from the 773,623 pupils enrolled in 2001.
