   There are 15.4 million children under the age of 15 in South Africa. 73% live in the same household as their mother. 33% live with both their mother and father.

   That totals 106%???

      Elma – thanks for your interest.
      It is stated that 73% of children under the age of 15 live in the same household as their mother. This is not to say that there is NO father in these households, just that there IS a mother. In other words, this does not state that they live JUST with their mother.

   What percent lives with just the father?

      Nick – the questions in GHS refer to the person’s biological mother and father being part of the household.

      There are 5.6 million children under 15 who live with their father. Of these, 5.1 million live with both their father and mother. Therefore, only around 540,000 (4% of children under 15) live just with their father.
