   Why are you always giving us stats of achieving a mark of 30% and above. Is the pass mark now 30%?

   I think when reporting on 2010 matric results, you should change the heading to “Fudged-data-a-day”

   Learners must study at least 6 subjects – 3 compulsory and at least 3 electives. The minimum requirements are listed below.

   Compulsory
   – Home language (min 40%)
   – First additional language (min 30%)
   – Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy (min 30%)
   – Life orientation (min 40%) – not examined externally

   At least 3 electives
   – 2 electives (min 40%)
   – Remaining elective (min 30%)

   Physical science, as an elective, can therefore have a minimum requirement of either 30% or 40%, depending on the learner.

   Joe –
   In addition to the information above, you may be interested to know that while 47.8% of Physical Science candidates achieved a mark of 30% and above, only 29.7% achieved 40% and above.
