Foreshore’s Forgotten Freeway
Construction of Cape Town’s unfinished freeway in the Foreshore area began in the 1960s but stopped in 1977 due to funding issues. Known as the ‘bridge going nowhere,’ it became an unintended landmark, having hosted a giant vuvuzela during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The current predicted cost of completing the Foreshore freeway is in the order of R1.8bn.
