   But also the number of athletes with medals in SA is far less than that of the US.

   That is incorrect, according to the statement by SASCOC – each discipline will get a maximum R400,000 for each Gold. Should we get 10 x Gold’s for swimming the athletes would have to share the R400,000 between each other(This would equate to R40,000 each). At this stage the Rowers will each get R100,000 if no other rowing team wins anything(Team of 4). The 2 Gold’s for swimming will have to be shared and get R200,000 each.

   Please correct me if I am wrong…

      We currently have 3 Olympic gold titles, but 6 medalists (2 individuals & a team of 4 rowers).
      That means 3 x R400 000 = R1 200 000 devided by 6 medalists = R200 000 each.

      I am quite certain that you are incorrect Magnus. It is essentially R400 000 per gold medal as it would appear on the medal table. Thus, in an individual event you will receive R400 000 for winning a gold medal, while if you are in a team event, each member will be entitled to R400000/N where N is the number of members in the team. It is R400 000 per event (for gold).

   The R400 000 is for each event so while the rowers will share the R400 000, the swimmers will receive R400 000 for each event they win. Cameron van der Burgh and Chad Le Clos will receive R400 000 each.
