   Medals per population numbers is a bit pointless. How about Australia, whih has fewer people than SA ?

   Like the previous response said, WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU WANT TO SAY. Yes look at Australia and then you comment again. We in SA always plead poverty, but it is ten (or lets say 20) times worse in India. A fact that you could rather mention is that we could also had the same number of medals, if our government did not exclude all the brilliant athletes who left the country, THEN WE WOULD HAVE MORE MEDALS THAN INDIA.

   This means India have to achieve a whooping 580 medals, just to break even on our current performance. Said differently, each of our medals are worth about 3.7 (4)of theirs… they have a loooong way to go! Plain & simple, we are ahead of India right now, in terms of medals produced per population.

   So what is the point? Considering the amount of poverty there is in India, they are doing good, Try and beat australia then talk!!!

   Australia currently has a total of 139 medals (62 of which are Gold). Their population is approximately 22,5 million which is under half that of South Africa’s.

   You should compare medals to GDP per capita, not population.
