Tokyo is aiming to be the most eco-friendly Olympic Games in recent history. Their sustainability plan included collecting 80 000 tons of electronics to produce medals made from e-waste, making cardboard beds and recyclable mattresses and fueling the torches with hydrogen. The Tokyo Games will still emit 3.3m tons of CO2, which is about 1.8m tons less than Rio’s games, and 570 000 tons less than London’s.
