Growth, but lagging
According to 2015 data from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, South Africa’s health care access and quality, as measured by the Health Access and Quality (HAQ) Index, increased from 45.6 in 1990, to 52.0 in 2015. Over that same period, the global measure improved from 40.7 to 53.7. Interestingly, South Africa’s HAQ Index grew at half the rate of global growth. The HAQ Index performance is shown on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 reflecting the worst observed levels across countries. (https://bit.ly/2zsqshg)
