2020 marks the 35th anniversary of the videogame, Super Mario Bros. Originally named Jumpman, Mario was given a better name and backstory (Italian-American plumber) in 1985 for his first game release. When first designed he was given his signature moustache because it looked better than a mouth in 8-bit graphics, and his red hat was used as drawing hair was too complex.
