Hi My Name is…
Storms that are expected to cause significant damage are given names in order to avoid confusion between different storms happening at the same time. The practice only became popular in the 1950s, and at the time, meteorologists were only using female names. As more women entered the profession in the 1970s it was noted that the practice was sexist, and male names began to be included as well. Some opposed this decision under the claim that male names wouldn’t inspire enough caution. (https://bit.ly/32eZea9, https://bit.ly/3eseN0s)
