Pan Am Airlines placed the first major order for the Boeing 747. In 1966 the airline bought 25 Boeing 747-100s for $525m – equivalent to approximately $5bn in 2023. For Boeing’s last, and final, order Atlas Air purchased 4 brand new 747-8F aircrafts for around $1.6bn.
