In the 2013/14 fiscal year the state owned Ethiopian Airlines Group made record profits of USD 154 million, up 53% on the previous year’s profit. During the same period SAA incurred a net loss USD 223 Million. Passenger traffic for Ethipoian airlines has more than doubled since FY2009 to 6 million passengers and it is believed that it will surpass SAA as the African market leader based on number of passengers carried in 2015 (in FY2014 SAA carried 7.1 million passengers).
