Lost at Sea
According to the British International Freight Association, an estimated 1 382 containers are lost at sea each year. This represents less than one-thousandth of 1% of the roughly 226 million containers currently shipped each year. Before 2013 the average number of containers lost at sea was 675 per year, but in 2013 the sinking of the MOL Comfort resulted in a loss of 4 293.
