   The Afrikaans language is only 100 years old and developed because the Afrikaner was determined to educate itself in its own language. The tragic aspect is that the Afrikaner did not assist the other indigenous languages to follow suit

   This is false. During Apartheid times, there were a lot of books written in indigenous languages. The homeland system, flawed as it was, actually encouraged the growth of the indigenous languages.

   Democracy came and the homeland system was abolished, the popularity of the indigenous languages has been on a decline since. The politicians have prioritised other things (getting themselves rich quickly) and not the growth of these languages. The English and Afrikaaners have actively been working on their languages, nothing is stopping us from writing in our own languages.

      What is your source for the quantity of books in indigenous languages during Apartheid? We’d love to post it.
