There are over 5 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean, accumulating in the 5 subtropical gyres, the largest being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP). The Ocean Cleanup, a foundation focused on removing plastic pollution from the oceans, will launch its first cleanup system inside the GPGP next month.
