South Africa is home to the longest freight train in the world! The Sishen – Saldanha manganese train reached 4km in length when Transnet increased the number of wagons from 312 to 375. This resulted in an increase in the manganese payload volume per trip from 19 656 tonnes to 23 625 tonnes.
