“Meg 2: The Trench” hit cinemas in August 2023 and has grossed $394m (R7.4bn) globally. The film features the megalodon, a shark species that went extinct 3.6 million years ago. While the movie portrays it as 27 metres long, the extinct shark actually measured between 15 and 18 metres, three times the size of the largest recorded great white shark.
