Millenia Before Columbus
23,000 year old human footprints were discovered in New Mexico and are now the earliest evidence of human presence in the Americas. The prints were mostly made by children and teenagers, and push the believed date of human migration into the Americas back by 6 000 years. They are believed to have been made in the Last Glacial Maximum when one third of Earth’s land was covered in ice, and are accompanied by prints made by mammoths and ground sloths.
