   All that this fact informs is South Africa’s and Namibia’s production. Where are the global figures, so that comparissons can be made and national pride can be assumed?

   The diamond industry is one huge scam. How many diamonds are “store” to keep the price artificially high. Their only real use (besides putting on cutting discs) is womens’ fingers and is that really worth it??

   Thanks Amnon for link. It is interesting to note that the total value of production of diamonds has fallen from US $10.2 billion (2004) to US $8.6 billion (2009). Its mainly due a restriction in production since the average price of a carat has risen. Botswana which has the worlds largest diamond (Orapa) has almost halfed it production during the period. I think some interesting hypothesis can be made about the state of the diamond market.
