McDonalds will close 850 stores in Russia, a move that has been mirrored by Adidas (500 stores), TJX (400), H&M (170), Nike (116), KFC (70), and Pizza Hut (50). These are just a few of the major corporations that have ceased, or are planning to cease, operations in Russia following its invasion of the Ukraine. Estimates of the impact of BP, Shell, JP Morgan, SocGen and CitiGroup leaving indicate that ~$36.7bn could be lost – equivalent to ~11% of South Africa’s GDP.
