Not So Freedom
Slavery was officially abolished in South Africa in 1834 when 35 000 Cape slaves were given their freedom. This freedom was however limited; they were forced to work for their masters for another four years and their wages enabled little more than subsistence. In 1855 the practice of indentured labour began in Natal, bringing 152 184 people from India to be slaves in all but name. (http://bit.ly/2XB3uLw, http://bit.ly/2PrDCz3)
