   The Quality of matric education is relatively poor as compared to the 1980.That is why there is lower pass rate at the university level.

   95% of IEB students complete their degree within the specified time as well.

   I would love to know the rationale for making the pass criteria 3 subjects at 30% and 3 subjects at 40%. I would also like to know of the 70.2% how many got an average of between 35% and 50%

   Isn’t there something to be read in the pear shaped results? I have a concern. There are more learners who passed matric in 2011 than in 2010. On the news it was said that more learners fared worse in the languages, math’s and some other subjects… Does this mean we now sit with many more people with matric but who cannot read, write or count… Isn’t that the problem… Another matter, what percentage of learners had their results bumped up just to pass and alos get university access… It does not help to lower standard to up statistics…

   Matric results should not be judged 2 months after the matriculants sat for the exams. They should be judged 12 months before the students write their final. It is craziness to expect magic to happen at the last moment. The time to monitor results is Grade 11 September and December results – not when the candidates need to submit hail-Mary applications to overburdened tertiary insitutions.
   Let us be a proactive native and stop this reactionary leadership style – it is destroying us!

   It is unfair to compare public and private schools, where we all know that the attention given per student in public schools is very low, equipment or labs are rarely present and the teaching techniques are unchanged i.e. one teacher teaching the same subject year after year without any change in making students understand. The environment alone does influence student-teacher relationship, which that would hardly be done at public schools. Comparing absolute numbers will really give clear representation i.e. a 10% of 10 is not the same as of a 100, and that of 10 might end up being 90% pass and of 100 being 50%. Is there any comparison there?

   The problem is – trying to fast track the incompetent for political means. We as a country with such great ability must STOP using the “previously disadvantaged, apartheid and BEE” trump cards. Start looking at everything, including employment though the “MERIT” system. Please the damage has been done, now lets fix it before it’s too late.

   We need leaders in SA who are prepared to speak the truth and act on it…. not politicians who try to score points and win influence only.

   First off I would like to say fantastic blog!
   I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you
   don’t mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
   I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out there.

   I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to
   15 minutes are wasted just trying to figure out how to begin.

   Any ideas or tips? Cheers!
