Parliament on fire
At 06h12 on Sunday 2 January 2022, a fire was reported at the South African Parliament in Cape Town – a fire that continued to burn for approximately 48 hours. The estimated cost of the damage to the buildings is R221m, and excludes the costs of the movable assets within that got damaged. Per regulation, the building is not insured, which implies that Government is going to have to foot this bill themselves.
