Pais
The word ‘peace’ comes from the Old French word pais, meaning ‘peace, reconciliation, silence, permission’, and from the Latin word pax, meaning ‘compact, agreement, treaty of peace, tranquility, absence of war’. The Global Peace Index (GPI) uses qualitative and quantitative indicators to measure the safety of 163 countries and to assess the economic value of peace. According to the 2018 GPI, the top three positions are held by Iceland, New Zealand, and Austria. South Africa ranks 125th out of the 163 countries. (http://bit.ly/2LfoHce)
