   Iceland’s power comes from natural undergound geyers that bubbles up boiling water that turns their generators, free & nice to have 🙂

   I’d like to know what the figures are for the USA since they set the greed and waste standards for the world – and yes I believe 95% of Iceland’s power is from sustainable thermal sources. But they’re also selling that now to other countries because they can’t resist the GREED

   Greed and waste ? The US may not be all bad. They seem to set the standards for charitable causes, as well…

   “…the USA is officially the most charitable nation in the world, moving from fifth place last year to first place this year. Ireland is the second most charitable country and Australia the third.”

   Well, of course the US should be the biggest donor – it should have been #1 for decades. However, post-facto charity can never compensate for permanent environmental damage any more than so-called carbon emissions ‘trading’ amounts to much more than another quick, legalistic evasion of real responsibility; plus, of course yet another dubious money making scheme for a few smart-arsed lawyers and accountants.

   When will we learn that $billions thrown at permanent damage is not like hitting some kind of ‘Restore’ button. And as long as the US-dominated Western world believes that money is the only measurement of value and truw wealth, such delusions will persist and the materialistic destruction of the planet will continue.

      I agree, Bob, the solution isn’t to throw money at a problem you’ve created and assume all is ‘restored.’ To be fair, the US isn’t the only country that has made genuine and/or self-serving attempts to ‘compensate for permanent environmental damage’ through monetary measures and it certainly isn’t the only country that has contributed to permanent environmental damage either. The highest-ranked country for ‘giving money’ is Thailand, with 85% of the population giving in this way each month. The US scored highest amongst the top 10 charitable countries in ‘helping a stranger’ with 73% of the population giving in this way each month.

      Your interpretation of the world comprising of people who are ‘US-dominated Western’ and ‘believe that money is the only measurement of value and true wealth…’ can only lead to your conclusion that ‘such delusions will persist and the materialistic destruction of the planet will continue.’

      I do, however, believe that the people in this world can be more than just Western and selfish. In fact, there may be people who are reading this comment now and perceive themselves to be more THAN JUST Western and selfish. It will take many more people of those kinds of people to prevent further environmental damage and create the most positive change to our environment. Some of those people might also happen to be from the US.

      But I do ultimately believe we are both fighting and working towards the same outcome.
