Eugene Debs was the Socialist Party candidate for President of the USA for 5 elections in the 1900s. Debs was arrested in 1918 for agitating people against the government, but in 1920, managed to make his final run from Atlanta Federal Penitentiary. He lost, but received nearly a million votes (901 551) -about six percent of the vote.
