Reforestation in Europe
Around the 1900s there were hardly any forest areas left in Europe. After WW2, most European countries embarked on massive afforestation (plantation of new forests) initiatives and these initiatives are still paying off. Between 1990 and 2015, European forests grew by over 90 000 square kilometers- that’s an area roughly the size of Portugal. (https://wapo.st/3881pNr, http://bit.ly/2YmAGIb)
